Summary: Almost every ABA company now runs on software. You'll take session notes, collect data, and sign off on your work in a digital system instead of on paper. The tools change the speed of the job, not the rules. Your notes still have to be objective, accurate, and signed by you, and you still have to protect that information like it's the only thing standing between your client and a privacy breach. Because most of the time, it is.
When you start as an RBT, someone will hand you a login. Maybe it's CentralReach, maybe it's Rethink, maybe it's something your company built. The name doesn't matter for the exam. What matters is that you understand what these systems do, what they don't fix, and where the ethical landmines are.
Here's the thing to get straight first: going digital doesn't change a single rule about documentation. A session note that would've been sloppy on paper is still sloppy on a screen. The software just makes it faster to be sloppy, and faster to be good. Which one you are is still up to you.
What these systems actually do
You'll run into a few categories of software. You don't need to memorize feature lists, but you should know what each kind is for, because the exam likes to test whether you know which tool does which job.
Data collection apps are where you'll spend most of your time. These are built for one thing: capturing behavior data in the moment. You tap a counter for frequency, start a timer for duration, mark a plus or minus on each DTT trial. The app graphs it for you and stores the operational definitions so you're measuring the same way every time. Some work offline, which matters when you're in a client's basement with no Wi-Fi.
